What are your plans for 2010?
Would you like to start your own business? If you already have a business what are your plans for it?
It is good to plan and everyone in business or who wants to start one should set down goals. For those already in business the next year may bring new challenges and plans should be drawn up to meet these. You may have new products to launch or you want to expand your business. This all requires careful planning if you are to succeed. Always remember this saying, “Fail to plan – plan to fail”. Therefore start by writing a business plan for the next 12 months and throughout the year keep referring to it. In fact it is a good idea to keep writing quarterly plans so that you can adjust your strategy if something is not working or indeed maybe working better than expected.
If you are wanting to start your own business now is the time to sit down and plan what you want to do and how you are going to achieve it. Spend time researching your market. make sure that you will have adequate capital or that you can find your fledgling business by continuing in your present job or go possibly part time. There are mant websites that contain excellent advice as well as many books offering business advice.
I can recommend advice given at Winweb and Enterprise Nation both specializing in helping small businesses. At Winweb you will see that a lot of references are made to ‘bootstrapping’ where you are encouraged to grow your business from the funds it generates rather than having to borrow or risk too much of the funds you have yourself. This is a great principle as many people have lost a lot of money and got into debt from failed businesses. If your business has to pay for itself and grow in this way it will encourage you to be more prudent and keep another source of income in the early stages of your business’ life.
So what will 2010 bring you? To a large extent it will depend on what you plan for it! I wish you well with your plans and do let me know how you get on with them.
