Are Ad Men Mad Men?

For many years the ad men of advertising companies have been telling us that to get noticed you have to be different. The ads also have to be different to capture the attention of the viewer or reader.

Ad men gone mad

It has become noticeable over recent years that in their attempt to be different and create the ad that gets the most attention some admen seem to have gone mad.

Ad Men make Bizarre TV ads

Many of the TV ads are now so bizarre that as a viewer you are left wondering what is was all about. Now the admen will say that is what they are wanting to achieve. I would like to point out that there is one problem that they seem to have overlooked. I haven’t a clue what they are advertising or the company that they are promoting five seconds after the ad has finished! What’s more guys it is not just me!

Lord Sugar has view of ad men

Lord Sugar often describes ads as “arty farty” in other words all art and no meaning. For an ad to be successful it must at least make the company brand stand out. We can all remember things like the ad promoting the mobile phone company Orange, “The future’s bight – the future’s Orange” and people even say it long after it was stopped being advertised. But some of this new stuff is a complete waste of time and effort. It’s strange though how executives of top flight companies can approve this. There must be shades of the The Emporer’s Suit of Clothing story here. In other words you’re an idiot if you don’t get it!

Well maybe admen you are very clever in taking money this way but you won’t be getting any of mine! One day a little boy will cry out just like in that story and will wake up those dozy executives and you ad men will not be able to pull the wool over their eyes any longer.

What do you think about ad men?
