Read The Small Print

I just wanted to take a moment to remind you of a very important fact of business life. Whenever you are going to enter into any business contract and are required to sign an agreement please make sure that you read the small print. The small print may not necessarily be small! I have seen so many people look at the front sheet of an agreement simply scan it at best and then sign on the dotted line.

A little while later when things go wrong and they are being charged for items they did not know that they had bought they are greatly surprised. It seems even easier when using the Internet to arrange agreements to tick that little box that says “I agree”. I expect that most of us have done this when downloading software and we ‘trust’ that everything will be fine. You may not notice that your Internet security has been compromised by doing it.

Always take time to read anything before you sign it or in the case of The Internet “tick it”. If you are still unsure after reading then seek advice from someone who knows. As the saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”

Have you ever had problems with agreements and got caught out by the small print? Have you ever spotted something before signing and were glad that you had read the agreement first? Please leave your comments in the box below.

  1. Interestingly I was listening to a Radio Wiltshire section on consumer rights yesterday and they mentioned the common myths.

Internet T&C’s are one of the most commonly used ways of getting out of paying money back etc. Does anyone ever read them!!!
