When Novel Marketing Becomes Annoying

During the past few months a number of Internet Marketers have been copying each other in order to attract attention.

I won’t name them here!

They have been using what can be a useful ploy but unfortunately it only really works one or two times per person that sees it and not per company using it.

The Marketing Ploy

This is how the marketing ploy goes. The company sends an email and “forgets” to put in the link or the link does not work or goes to a page which is fine but is the wrong offer. A few hours later you will receive an email apologising for the bad link and encloses the correct link and in order to say sorry a special offer will be available!

Now as you can see you may get one of these and think that’s quite good but when lots of companies all do the same thing you now know that this is more of a marketing ploy than a genuine mistake and it now becomes annoying rather than attractive.

It is best if you get a novel idea use it by all means but be wary about duplicating something like this which becomes obvious to people that it is nothing more than a ploy. Do not copy it unless you don’t mind being rumbled. Honest marketing is far more preferable. Think of reasons why you should contact your list and offer a special deal rather than invent a way that is quite fickle.
